Citizen arrests two men for vote-buying in Allacapan, Cagayan

Cagayan, Philippines – Not all citizens will tolerate vote buying unfolding before them just like one resident in Cagayan who arrested and turned over to the police two men who were allegedly engaged in the prohibited activity.

 

Police accounts state that it was around 10:00 a.m. on May 9 when two men – a 45 and 52-year-old residents of Allacapan were allegedly caught buying votes in Barangay Tamboli.

 

The two suspects ended in the hands of the police when a resident, through citizen arrest, nabbed them and turned them over to the police officers.

 

Seized from the accused included a total of P100,000 cash, a body bag, list of names of residents in Barangay Pacac and Tamboli, sample ballot with campaign pamphlet, among others.

 

The two men were kept under the custody of the police for documentation and proper disposition.

 

The Philippine National Police, meantime, was ordered by its chief, PGen. Rommel Marbil on May 9 to intensify efforts against vote-buying and vote-selling activities. Moreover, the authorities across the country are investigating several reports of vote buying.
