Tabuk City, Kalinga – Two men detained at the Tabuk City Police Station for illegal drugs and illegal firearms violations escaped from jail early morning of Sunday, January 4, 2026.

The detainees were identified by the Tabuk City police as Andres Benito Jr., 35 and Michael Macagne, 39. They were arrested on December 17, 2025 due to violations of the Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and RA No. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

Initial investigation revealed that the two escaped from their jail cell between 2:30 a.m. and 4:15 a.m. by cutting the round bar rods. They exited by slipping through a small opening that led them to the alley towards the first floor of the station then escaped through the back door towards the Provincial Road in Laya.
