Tragic Road Accident in Cordon, Isabela: Cop crashes into post, then struck by Van

Isabela, Philippines – A 43-year-old police officer in Isabela succumbed to multiple injuries following a road accident on January 4, 2026, in the municipality of Cordon.

Police identified the victim as Police Senior Master Sergeant Reymundo Maramag, a resident of Tuguegarao City who was detailed with the Police Security and Protection Group–PNP National Headquarters.

On the day of the incident, Maramag was riding his motorcycle along the national highway in Barangay Caquilingan. Dashcam footage showed that he was traveling on the outer lane when he crashed into a post on the side of the highway, causing him to lose balance.

As Maramag fell onto the road toward the inner lane, he was struck by an incoming refrigerated van. The impact caused him to sustain multiple serious injuries, which eventually led to his death.

The driver of the van, identified only by the alias “Zandy,” 35, a resident of Quirino province, was taken into police custody by the Cordon Municipal Police Station, according to a report by XFM Santiago.

Meanwhile, during the holiday season, the Department of Health recorded 1,113 road crash-related injuries nationwide from December 21, 2025, to January 2, 2026—an 82 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

Authorities have once again reminded motorists and riders to drive defensively, especially in accident-prone areas.
