Cagayan, Philippines – Aimed at connecting communities and shortening travel time, the long-awaited Camalaniugan–Aparri Bridge in Cagayan province was finally completed and inaugurated on Thursday, January 8, 2026, led by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

According to the Cagayan Public Information Office (CPIO), the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported that construction of the Camalaniugan–Aparri Bridge began in May 2020, with total project costs exceeding ₱2 billion upon completion.

As cited in the report, the bridge links the municipalities of Camalaniugan and Aparri. It has a total length of 1,580 meters and can support a maximum load of up to 45 tons.

In addition to directly connecting the two towns, the bridge now serves as a crucial alternate route to the Magapit Suspension Bridge, which had been the only river crossing in the northernmost part of Cagayan for many years.

Moreover, travel time between Aparri and Ballesteros is expected to decrease from nearly one hour to approximately 20 minutes with the completion of the structure.

During the inauguration ceremony, Marcos Jr. said the bridge will not only cut travel time but will also significantly improve the daily lives of residents and travelers while boosting economic activity in the area.

The President also commended the DPWH, under the leadership of Secretary Vince Dizon, for successfully completing the project on time despite the various challenges faced by the agency, including issues related to anomalous “ghost projects.”

“Nakakatuwa dahil napakalaking bagay ang paglalagay ng ganitong tulay dahil it cuts the travel time. Imbes na umiikot ng napakalayo para tumawid, andito na ang Camalaniugan–Aparri Bridge. I congratulate the Public Works for their very good work here and to see that everything was completed on time, on budget, and despite all of the other issues that we are having to deal with. Patuloy pa rin ang kanilang naging trabaho,” Marcos Jr. said.

Meanwhile, Radio Television Malacañang (RTVM) noted that the inauguration of the Camalaniugan–Aparri Bridge marked the completion of a major infrastructure project in the country that was personally inspected by the President.

It can be recalled that Marcos Jr., along with DPWH officials, visited the bridge for a site inspection on October 14, 2025.
