Tabuk City, Kalinga – Instead of celebrating Christmas Day, two families in Kalinga were left grieving after their loved ones were hacked and shot to death in separate incidents.

In an interview with GURU Press Cordillera, Kalinga Police Spokesperson Police Captain Ruff Manganip said that most areas in the province remained peaceful on December 25, except for Tabuk City, the provincial capital, where two crime incidents were recorded.

“All other municipalities were very peaceful, except Tabuk, where crime incidents were recorded,” he said.

According to Manganip, the crimes involved a hacking incident in Agbannawag and a shooting incident in Balong.

The hacking case involved a husband and wife who allegedly argued over jealousy. The situation escalated, resulting in the husband hacking his wife to death, with their child witnessing the crime. The suspect fled the scene.

On the same day, another life was lost in Balong. Police reports revealed that two men were lounging and watching YouTube at a farmhouse when one of them was shot.

Manganip said both victims were declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

Police investigators were immediately deployed to probe the incidents. The suspect involved in the shooting have surrendered himself before the Tabuk City Police Station on December 26, while the husband in the hacking case remains the subject of a manhunt as of this writing.
