17-yr.-boy drowns while swimming in Buguey, Cagayan

Buguey, Cagayan - A 17-year-old teenager lost his life after he drowned in the waters of Barangay Cabaritan, Buguey, Cagayan, on Monday, April 27, 2025.

According to the information gathered by a local media outlet from the witnesses, the victim, whose identity was withheld by the police, went to the beach in the said area with his cousins for a swim.

While they were enjoying the water, a strong wave hit the young man, sweeping him away from the shore until he was no longer seen.

In a video uploaded online by a netizen, strong waves were crashing onto the shore, indicating that swimming in the sea on that day was dangerous.

The people who were at the beach and witnessed the victim’s drowning immediately reported the incident to the authorities, who quickly launched a search and rescue operation.

The victim’s body was retrieved the same day by the responding members of the Bureau of Fire Protection. The rescuers attempted to revive him through cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before rushing him to a nearby hospital.

Unfortunately, despite the swift response, he was not able to survive because of the large amount of water he ingested from drowning.

Following the incident, authorities reminded the public to exercise caution when going to the beach for leisure activities and adhere to safety guidelines to prevent such a tragedy.
