First LGU owned college in Region 2 to be constructed in Ilagan, Isabela

Ilagan City, Isabela – The construction of the City of Ilagan College in Barangay Lullutan is set to begin in two weeks, reported XFM Santiago on Wednesday, April 19, 2023.

The erection of the institution with a contract cost of P99,935,900 is an offshoot of the feasibility study conducted in the locality.

Gathered data show that many learners are forced to go to Cauayan City, Santiago City in Isabela, Tuguegarao City in Cagayan, Bayombong in Nueva Vizcaya, Baguio City, and in Manila to pursue their desired courses.

The study further revealed that the establishment of the community college, including its medical, health-related courses and allied programs, is feasible and that the tools, equipment, and human resources needed are “doable, viable and available.”

City Mayor Jay Diaz meanwhile said the CIC will provide the needs of medical workers for them to be able to offer the courses such as medical technologist, dentistry, pharmacy, and nursing, among others.

The institution shall likewise cater to learners from outside the city, and even those from the neighboring provinces.

Having acquired the necessary documents and license from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the local stakeholders intend to open the community college by next year.

If everything goes according to plan, Ilagan will be the first city in the region to operate a city college as the institution will be under Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs).
