23 FRs in Abra assisted under ECLIP, 10 others get P100k each

Abra, Philippines – Twenty-three former rebels (FRs) from three municipalities in Abra Province were granted financial aid through the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) of the national government on Tuesday, June 2, 2021.

E-CLIP isa government program designed to help former CPP-NPA-NDF and Militia ng Bayan members restore their allegiance to the Philippine government through holistic package of benefits such as livelihood, medical assistance, education, housing, and legal assistance.

For FRs from Dolores, Lagayan, and Sal-lapadan towns, they have availed of financial assistance. The amount corresponds to the gun(s) they surrendered.

According to the provincial government of Abra, the cheques distributed ranges from P15,000 to P65,000.

Additionally, ten former rebels from Sal-lapadan, Daguioman and Bucloc municipalities were likewise given P10,000 each as cash assistance from Philippine National Police-CAR through the initiative of PRO-COR Regional Director Ronald Oliver Lee.

Ka Apple, an FR from Dolores and one of the beneficiaries, expressed his gratefulness for the chance given him to get back to his normal life after having stayed in the mountains for about a year as a rebel.

According to him, he will be using the financial assistant to establish a piggery, so he could provide for his family.

"Usarek a pagpuunan iti piggery daytoy tulong a naawat ko tapno makatulongak iti pamilyak," he said.

Meantime, in a statement during the program, Governor Joy Bernos said that based on the increasing number of surrenderees, the campaign of the government is on the track.

“I believe that the increasing number of surrenderees is a sign that our campaign is working," she said.

Present during the awarding were DILG Provincial Director Millicent Cariño, PRO-COR Regional Director Ronald Oliver Lee, and Philippine Army 702 Brigade Commander Krishnamurti A. Mortela.
