Buguias, Benguet – The Municipality of Buguias, widely known in the Philippines as a major producer of carrots, is set to celebrate its first-ever Carrot Festival from March 2 to 8, 2026. The festival will honor local farmers, cultural traditions, and the community’s rich agricultural heritage.

With the theme “Cultivating a Sustainable Future: Sowing Innovations, Honoring Heritage,” the week-long celebration aims to highlight the vital role of agriculture in the town’s economy while showcasing the talent, creativity, and resilience of its residents.

Festivities will kick off on March 2 at the Loo Grandstand. Among the key highlights are the Mister and Miss Buguias Advocacy Pitch, which will also be held on March 2 at the Municipal Social Hall in Abatan; the Rescuelympics; and the Carrot Cake Presentation, among other activities.

Carrot Production

Nestled in the highlands, Benguet’s cool and temperate climate nurtures high-quality carrots known for their richer color and better taste compared to produce grown in other regions.

In 2024, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Benguet was the top carrot-producing province in the country, accounting for 79 percent of total national production, with 48,186 metric tons recorded.

With 2,310 hectares under cultivation, Benguet had the largest area devoted to carrot production nationwide in 2024. However, this reflected a 10.19 percent decline, or 282.91 hectares, due to crop rotation practices implemented in some areas of the province.

Meanwhile, the municipality, through its official Facebook page LGU Buguias, invites residents and visitors alike to join the festivities and experience Buguias’ rich culture while celebrating a crop that has long symbolized hard work, resilience, and community cooperation in the highlands of Benguet.

“Buguias invites everyone to the 1st Carrot Festival this March 2–8, 2026! Together, let’s celebrate our farmers, showcase our talents, and honor our traditions in a week-long festival of unity and joy.”
