Catch a glimpse of 3 master artworks of Fernando Amorsolo in Baguio City

Baguio City, Philippines – In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of Fernando C. Amorsolo as the 1st National Artist of the Philippines in Visual Arts, three of his great masterpieces were recreated through brick mosaic art and are being displayed at the Mall Atrium of SM Baguio City.

Amorsolo was conferred the said title on April 28, 1972. This was four days after he died from heart failure at the age of 79.

The Project AMORsolo art exhibit in Baguio City was launched on Saturday, August 20 by the mall manager and the Pinoy LEGO Users Group (PinoyLUG), a community of passionate Filipino Lego builders and hobbyists.

It was said that the PinoyLUG collaborated with the Fernando C. Amorsolo Art Foundation Inc. to preserve and promote the works of the Grand Old Man of Philippine Art.

The exhibition features "Bayanihan" (1959). In this painting, villagers can be seen lifting a “bahay kubo” while a figure wearing a “salakot” (straw hat) leads them to the nipa hut's new home.

Also being displayed in the mall is Amorsolo’s "Early Traders" (1959). The art depicts bartering transactions between native and Western merchants alighting from the galleons.

"Dalagang Bukid" (1937) is likewise being promoted. Others call the painting as “Woman with Banga.” Accordingly, it is Amorsolo’s attempt to depict Filipina beauty. The “banga” held by the young maiden represents her vulnerability and innocence while her sweet smile symbolizes optimism and faith amid trials and tribulations. The display in Baguio City will be until Friday, August 26. The exhibit will then be brought to SM Cabanatuan where the public have chance to see from August 29 to September 04.
