DA-CAR allots 1.4M to 100 ASF affected swine raisers of Kalinga

Tabuk City, Kalinga –The Department of Agriculture through the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) distributed a total amount of P 1, 455, 000 cash assistance to 100 swine-raisers in the province who were affected with the culling of African Swine Fever (ASF) infected pigs conducted last year.


Based on the PVO data, beneficiaries include 14 swine raisers from Balbalan, 17 in Rizal, 31 in Tabuk City and 38 from Pinukpuk.


DA-Cordillera gave P5, 000 pesos cash assistance for every swine culled with a maximum of 20 heads per owner or amounting to P100,000.


In an interview, Dr. Angie Tanding of PVO said that qualified beneficiaries for the ASF indemnification are those who voluntarily surrendered their pigs for depopulation in 2020.

“Dagidiay recipients, they voluntarily surrendered dagidiay baboy da for depopulation, han mi nga in-select isuda,” Tanding informed.


Tanding disclosed that 13 cheques were returned due to errors in names, but assured that once corrected it will be given to the recipients.


Tanding said that depopulation is one of the guidelines crafted to control the spread of ASF in affected areas, where non-selective depopulation of ASF-positive pigs and exposed pigs in affected areas based on guideline shall be done within the 500-meters radius.


In a report, DA-CAR said that a distribution of a total amount of P 6,080,000 to 169 hog-raisers in Ifugao province and P 810,000 for Benguet, having 87 recipients will be done on May. As recalled, Benguet and Ifugao provinces also benefited from the assistance last year having received a total amount of P 6 500,000 for around 156 swine-raisers.
