First Philippine Olympic gold medalist gives weightlifting equipment to Ifugao

Ifugao, Philippines – The first Philippine Olympic gold medalist who conquered the women’s 55 kilograms weightlifting competition at the Tokyo Olympics in July 2021 donated on Wednesday a weightlifting equipment to Ifugao provincial government unit.


Olympic and International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Champion Hidilyn Diaz-Naranjo was accompanied by her husband and coach, Julius in her visit to the province.

Her cousin, coach Joe Patrick Diaz trains youths in Hungduan on weightlifting. Members of the Hungduan Weightlifting Club are also part of the Philippine National team, informed Philippine Information Agency - Ifugao


In her talk during the program held at the Lagawe plaza, Hidilyn shared her desire to inspire aspiring weightlifters and likewise share her passion in said sport.


Together with her husband, the Olympic gold medalist took time to demonstrate basic weightlifting techniques and her prowess to the people of Ifugao.

She further encouraged the youth to give all their best as she is a living testament that “tayong mga Pilipino, kaya din nating manalo sa Olympics.”


In response to her generosity, Provincial Administrator, Abelardo Yogyog along with Provincial Sports Coordinator, Manuel Bitog and other officials and athletes who were present in said event expressed gratitude through appreciation certificate and tokens, and committed to make use of the equipment she gave as intended.
