Updated: Dec 6, 2021

Tanudan, Kalinga — More than two million worth of shared service facilities were provided to the members of the Gaang Tribal Unity for Development this December 3, 2021.

This project was made possible through the Integrated Natural Resources and Environmental Management Project – Livelihood Support 2 implemented by the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

The heirloom SSF – Processing Facilities include a P1.9million building, which is expected to be completed by December 31, and P702,000 worth of customized rice mill facilities.

According to DTI Kalinga Provincial Director, Renie Ramos, it was the last quarter in 2018 that the DTI and DENR signed a MOA for the implementation of the project. From then, selection of beneficiaries was made in which Gaang organization was selected as one of the recipients. Added to the process were consultation meetings to ensure that the grant shall be what the organization needs.

“Nu makita yu daytoy programa ket kumpleto iti ited na, makita yu adda iti facilities, adda pay iti balay na diay nga ongoing. Adda pay working capital na tapos adda pay packaging na,” Ramos said, enjoining the Gaang community to support the Gaang Tribal Unity for Development or the GATUD for the shared service facility will be used by the entire community.

Meanwhile, the GATUD was reminded that once the heirloom SSF – Processing Facilities will be delivered to their area; it is still owned by the DTI for two years and that it will be turned over to the organization if it is successful or if they produce a product within the said years.

If the facilities were not utilized within the two years, it was mentioned that the DTI could take it away and give it to the qualified cooperative.

Meantime, apart from Barangay Gaang, Anggacan in Tanudan is also a beneficiary of the said program.
