Cagayan, Philippines – As the province is recording Covid-19 related deaths every day, Governor Manuel Mamba is considering mass burial sites as part of their preparation and response in case the situation worsens.

Through its Provincial Information Office, the governor is considering the possibility noting that from April 1 to 9, 2021 alone, around 27 deaths were already reported in the locality.

Mamba said the idea seemed remorseful as he asked for apology for bringing it out, but explained that it could be undertaken as a remedy and the province needs to prepare and gear up with the increasing daily deaths.

He cited that in a single day on April 7, Tuguegarao City has recorded seven deaths. With this, Mamba is asking the local chief executives to consider the establishment of mass burial sites. Moreover, he prays that the country and Cagayan will not have to undergo the situation other countries experienced where they had to create mass burial sites with the surge of cases, but he stressed that this still should be considered as a possibility.

Additionally, he said that public cemeteries are nearly occupied making it more difficult to bury patients who succumbed to the virus especially that they have to be buried within 12 hours.

Meantime, there is a total of 74 Covid-19 related deaths in Cagayan where 28 are in Tuguegarao; 8 in Solana; 7 in Tuao; 5 in Gattaran; 4 in Peñablanca; 3 in Alcala, Aparri, and Piat; 2 in Allacapan, Amulong, and Baggao; and 1 in Enrile, Iguig, Lal-lo, Lasam, Sanchez Mira, and Sta. Ana.

The Cagayan PIO added that there are other suspected Covid-19 deaths which are yet to be verified or their reporting was just delayed.
