Cagayan, Philippines – Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba warns punong barangays in said province that they may face charges and arrest, while reminding his chiefs of police that they may be relieved once they fail to implement the minimum health protocols especially in the prevention of mass gatherings in their area or responsibility.

The governor, according to a report from the Cagayan Provincial Information Office, said that the village and police chiefs have nothing to worry if there is no Covid-19 positive cases in their area and that they are performing their jobs.

“Matagal na tayo dito sa health protocols kaya huwag tayong magsawa sa pagsunod at gawin ang responsibilidad natin. Si Kapitan at COP kung walang positive sa mga area ninyo at lahat ay nagta-trabaho ay hindi kayo mangangamba dito. Dahil alam ninyong i-manage nang mabuti ang Covid,” he said.

President Rodrigo Duterte, in his address this Wednesday, ordered the police to arrest first the barangay captains if they fail to prevent mass gatherings in their community.

Moreover, Philippine National Police Chief General Guillermo Eleazar, in a press briefing, said that police who fails to enforce the health protocols will be relieved and sanctioned.

Police to be seen ‘everywhere’

Mamba also reiterated that the police should be “seen everywhere” particularly in places of convergence such as public markets, churces, resorts, and tourist spots.

He also suggested that there should be “i-text mo kay Kapitan, kay COP, kay Mayor at kay MHO” just like the “itext mo kay Gov. Mamba” so the people could reach them directly for their concerns.

Meanwhile, the Province of Cagayan is still under the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantines until the end of May.

Additionally, there is a total of 1,721 Covid-19 active cases in Cagayan with 253 deaths since the pandemic started last year.
