Pinukpuk, Kalinga – A 44-year-old intoxicated farmer who allegedly attempted to sell shabu to a soldier in Pinukpuk is now under the custody of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) after being charged for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

Information obtained by GURU Press Cordillera from Pinukpuk Police Officer-in-Charge, PCapt. Tyrone John Balanay, revealed that the suspect, whose identity was withheld, was arrested on June 29, 2026, at a panciteria in Junction, Pinukpuk.

According to the police, the accused allegedly approached a member of the 103rd Infantry Battalion, who was having lunch with a companion, and offered to sell him a sachet of suspected shabu.

The soldier pretended to buy the illegal drug for P1,000, prompting the suspect to produce the sachet. After the transaction was completed, the military personnel identified himself as an intelligence operative and apprehended the suspect. The incident was immediately reported to the Pinukpuk Municipal Police Station, whose personnel responded and took the accused into custody.

PCapt. Balanay said the suspect has been charged with violating Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and is now under BJMP custody.

Meanwhile, the Pinukpuk police are also holding another alleged drug personality who was arrested at the Junction Fixed Police Visibility Point on July 10. The suspect was initially flagged down for driving without a license and operating an "umbak" without a franchise.

During the inspection, police discovered eight sachets of suspected shabu in his possession. His case has already been referred to the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor for the filing of appropriate charges.

In a statement, Balanay reaffirmed the commitment of the Pinukpuk Municipal Police Station to maintaining peace and order in the municipality, saying, "these successful operations reflect our unwavering commitment to keeping our communities safe from the harmful effects of illegal drugs. We are also grateful for the full support of Hon. Jimmy B. Dasayon, Municipal Mayor of Pinukpuk, whose continued backing strengthens our campaign against illegal drugs."
