Tabuk City, Kalinga – The seven municipalities and the lone city in Kalinga were recently recognized by the provincial government and stakeholders for their strong commitment to protecting women and children.

The awardees received the Provincial UWAWI Award on March 2, 2026, at the Kalinga Sports Center as part of the province’s observance of National Women’s Month.

The Provincial UWAWI, or Unawa, Wagas na Alaga, at Wastong Implementasyon para sa mga Bata at Kababaihan, honors local government units (LGUs) for exemplary leadership and programs in child and women’s protection.

In partnership with the Provincial Council for the Protection of Children (PCPC) and the Provincial Committee on Anti-Trafficking and Violence Against Women and Their Children (PCAT-VAWC), the awards were bestowed to the municipalities of Tinglayan, Balbalan, Lubuagan, Pasil, Pinukpuk, Tanudan, Rizal, and the city of Tabuk.

During the event, attended by GURU Press Cordillera, the LGUs were also cited for achieving the Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance, maintaining strong local councils for child protection, and ensuring highly functional councils against trafficking and violence targeting women and children.

Governor James Edduba commended the mayors for their outstanding leadership and for successfully implementing programs dedicated to the welfare and protection of Kalinga’s women and children within their respective communities.
