Tabuk City, Kalinga – With the provision of an orientation seminar on Magna Carta of the Poor (MCP) - Local Poverty Reduction Action Plan (LPRAP) on Friday, August 15 at the MHotel in Appas, Tabuk City to the Kalinga LGUs and officials, there is hope that better anti-poverty policies and projects will be implemented.

The seminar was held through the National Anti-poverty Commission’s (NAPC) proactive step towards reducing poverty incidence in Kalinga.

Said event was attended by representatives from the local government units in Kalinga, along with development coordinators, provincial LGU officials, and other stakeholders.

The seminar, being conducted in all provinces in the Philippines, aims to get inputs in formulating the National Poverty Reduction Plan - the guiding principles in decreasing the country’s 18.1 percent poverty rate as envisioned by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

During the seminar, the participants were familiarized with the important features and implementing rules and regulations of the MCP.

Additionally, they were also made to understand the formulation process and procedures of the LCPRAP, providing them with knowledge and skills in addressing poverty at the local level.

The seminar was led by NAPC Deputy Director General Esnaen Catong, who shared his expertise on poverty reduction, underscoring that ‘Education plays a crucial role in reducing poverty’ as it empowers individuals from marginalized communities with dignified work and upward social mobility.

Governor James Edduba was also present at the event who expressed the PLGU’s commitment to addressing poverty in the province, saying that the provincial government is doing its job to make sure ‘no one will be left behind’.
