BALBALAN, Kalinga — The young people of Balbalan proved that the municipality’s greatest potential may be found in its youth as they showcased their talents, creativity, confidence, and leadership during the 2026 Linggo ng Kabataan celebration in Poblacion, Balbalan.

With the theme “Youth Advancing Multilateral Cooperation Through Technology and Partnerships,” young people from the municipality’s 14 barangays gathered at the KDCM Sporters Center on August 8 for a day filled with empowerment, leadership, camaraderie, and the celebration of youth potential.

The one-day celebration featured a variety of competitions designed to bring out the participants’ creativity, knowledge, confidence, and cultural pride.

Among the activities were the Boy and Girl Officials 2026, Hip-Hop Dance, Pop Dance, Youth Quiz Bee, Pattong Cultural, Spoken Poetry, and Duet Singing competitions.

Beyond the contests and performances, the celebration provided the young participants with an opportunity to build friendships, develop their confidence, and discover the importance of working together toward a common goal.

Young voices, bigger roles

Balbalan Mayor Almar Malannag and Vice Mayor Regina Munda Cruz joined the young participants during the celebration, encouraging them to remain active in meaningful programs and community activities.

In her message, Vice Mayor Munda Cruz emphasized that youth participation in government initiatives goes beyond simply receiving programs and services.

She said young people are also partners in building stronger, more inclusive, and progressive communities, making their voices and participation important in shaping the future of Balbalan.

Her message encouraged the youth to see themselves not only as beneficiaries of today’s programs but also as future leaders who can contribute to the development of their communities.

Dream big, use technology wisely

Adding inspiration to the celebration, 2LT Abraham Aromin Jr., the event’s guest speaker, challenged the iBalbalan youth to dream big and use their voices to create positive change.

Aromin encouraged the young participants to maximize technology as a tool for learning, communication, collaboration, and creativity.

But while technology opens countless opportunities, he reminded the youth that the digital world also carries risks.

He emphasized the importance of responsible social media use, urging young people to think carefully about what they post, share, and consume online.

His message resonated with the theme of this year’s celebration, which highlights the role of technology and partnerships in empowering young people.

Celebrating potential

The celebration culminated in the recognition of winners from the various competitions, who received cash prizes for their outstanding performances.

But beyond the prizes, the event gave Balbalan’s young people something more lasting—a platform to express themselves, build confidence, appreciate their culture, and recognize their own potential.

From the dance floor to the quiz stage, from spoken poetry to cultural presentations, the celebration showed that the youth of Balbalan are not simply waiting for the future.

They are already finding their voices, developing their talents, and taking their first steps toward becoming the leaders their communities need.
