Laya West Elementary School in Tabuk City turns to e-TURO to bridge learning gaps, prepare pupils for digital future

TABUK CITY, Kalinga — At Laya West Elementary School, the arrival of the e-TURO Digital Learning System (DLS) is being seen as more than simply bringing technology into the classroom.

For school head Marilyn B. Pecua, the digital learning tools provide an opportunity to help teachers improve instruction, address learning gaps and equip pupils with skills they will need in an increasingly digital world.

Laya West Elementary School was among the schools that received an e-TURO DLS package from the Department of Science and Technology-Cordillera during a turnover ceremony at the Schools Division Office of Tabuk City in Barangay Bulanao on September 28.

The turnover was led by DOST-Cordillera Regional Director Dr. Nancy A. Bantog and DOST-Kalinga Provincial Director Dr. Jasmine Dona-al.

For Pecua, the occasion marked a new opportunity for the school and its learners.

“Today is truly special. Our school, Laya West Elementary School, has been chosen as a beneficiary of this DOST eTURO digital learning system, and we could not be more grateful,” Pecua said.

Bridging gaps through technology

Pecua sees e-TURO as a tool that can help teachers deliver lessons more effectively by giving them access to modern digital resources.

At the same time, she believes the system can give pupils opportunities to develop digital skills while making learning more engaging and responsive to their needs.

For the school head, technology can also play a role in addressing learning gaps and encouraging pupils to become more curious as they explore digital learning resources.

“eTURO empowers our teachers with modern tools to teach better and easier. It advances our learners with the digital skills that will shape their future,” she said.

She added: “It bridges gaps, inspires curiosity, and ensures no child is left behind in our fast-changing world.”

More than a donation

While grateful for the digital resources, Pecua emphasized that receiving the equipment also comes with responsibility.

The school, she said, will ensure that the resources are properly cared for, maximized and made available to learners who can benefit from them.

“We accept this gift, with great responsibility. We pledge to care for it, use it well, and share it fully,” she said.

For Laya West Elementary School, the e-TURO package therefore represents not only new equipment but also an opportunity to strengthen the way teachers teach and pupils learn.

Preparing learners for tomorrow

Pecua described the DOST support as an investment in the school's learners as education continues to adapt to technological changes.

She expressed appreciation to DOST for extending the digital learning resources to Laya West and hoped that the initiative would open more opportunities for its pupils.

“Thank you, DOST, for investing in our children. Together, we will build a smarter, brighter future for all,” she concluded.

For Laya West, the e-TURO journey is ultimately about using technology not as an end in itself, but as another tool to help teachers reach learners, bridge gaps and prepare children for the future.
