Lubuagan, Kalinga ─ Seven businesses here selling wearable merchandise were recently taught on the new trend designs to enhance their products and compete in the commercial market.

This was made possible through the Assessment, Consultation and Triage (ACT) Session under the One Town, One Product Next Generation (OTOP Next Gen) Program of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

The ACT Session is a product development program to improve micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) brands by enhancing their products and packaging designs, under the guidance of artists and design consultants.

Ms. Aurelia Sanet of DTI-Kalinga said that aside from product branding, they also upgraded the products of wearable entrepreneurs by incorporating new trend designs in their outputs.

“Ideally, kitaen da nu anya ba ti existing nga ar-aramiden ti non-food products tapos ag-recommend ti designer nga daytoy iti new trend tatta. Nu kuma bag dayta, traditionally, kakasta a plain ngem tatta agkita da ti new trend, design-an da with all the specifications nga ited da idiay kliyente, i-execute da,” she said.

However, it was observed that the entrepreneurs were having difficulties in doing the designs so the provincial office decided to get a local designer, Ms. Maureen Toctocan, to coach the group.

“Ang naging problema, nahihirapan sila, hindi nila alam gawin, ang ganda ng design pero manmanu ti maka-execute lalo dagiyay complicated nga bado. So ang ginawa ko this year even the other year tapno adda output ken masurutan da nga dagus, impan kon diyay designer idiay, insuru na diyay dait na, color combination, cuts and all,” she narrated.

Meanwhile, Sanet said the program aims to capacitate MSMEs in upgrading their products in the areas of design, quality and volume, among others. As of this year, there are 70 iKalingas enrolled under this program.

Lubuagan Mayor Charisma Anne Dickpus expressed her appreciation to DTI for the assistance extended to the municipality and its entrepreneurs.

“We are grateful that DTI has given priority to improve our OTOP products here in Lubuagan, tapnu mas lalo nga pumintas ti kalidad dagiti lako tayo ken maka-kompetensya tayo commercially. Kayat tayo met nga ma-introduce ti produkto dagiti taga-Lubuagan internationally so that the hard work of the iLubuagens will be known and recognized,” the mayor said.

“Ti maysa nga pagmayatan na dagitoy ar-aramiden ti DTI ket daytoy preservation of our traditional weaving designs uray nu tuloy-tuloy ti panag-upgrade iti quality ti maysa nga produkto, that is why we fully cooperate with them and support their work,” Dickpus concluded.
