Tabuk City, Kalinga –The Kalinga State University (KSU) goes ‘green-tagging’ on May 5, with the establishment of a vegetable and fruit seedling pantry, set to open in front of the university’s Bulanao Campus.

This is to advocate resiliency through food production amidst the pandemic.

May Shui Buslig, University Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) Chairperson said that the project dubbed as ‘Maging Re-berde, magPUnLA para sa kinabukasan’ is a version of the community pantries being set-up across the country, but instead of giving goods to the people in Kalinga, vegetable and fruit seeds and seedlings will be given for them to plant.

“It is more of a long term planning na, if you know how to plant, hindi ka magugutom. It’s being resilient, if you have at least one fruit bearing tree and an edible garden, you’ll never get hungry even whatever pandemic man ang mangyayari,” she said.

Buslig added that the pantry will be set up at the gate of KSU which has enough space for social distancing.

“Dagiay mangkayat ag-donate they can come over and donate seeds and those who want to come and get their seeds, umay da met lang ... magbigay ayon sa kakayahan, kumuha ayon sa kakayahang magtanim.” she said.

Fun-bike for a Cause

Moreover, on May 5 at 6.00 PM, there will be a fun bike for a cause to be conducted just before the vegetable and fruit pantry opens. The registration, which is yet to be finalized, will be utilized for the purchase of more seeds for the pantry.

The fun-bike activity, Buslig added, will start from KSU Bulanao to Callagdao, Bulo, Agbannawag, Nambaran then back to the campus.

Meanwhile, in 2020, the group of Buslig in partnership with the Tanudan LGU and SK Federation distributed vegetable and fruit seeds in Lubo and Gaang with the same advocacy to promote resiliency among the people in this time of pandemic.
