Magsaysay, Tabuk City intensifies No Stray Dog ordinance to curb road accidents

Updated: Oct 31, 2022

Magsaysay, Tabuk City – In a bid to reduce road accidents caused by stray animals, especially dogs, the Barangay Council and Tanods of Magsaysay, Tabuk City intensified their campaign to capture unleashed dogs.

Magsaysay recorded some accidents caused by stray dogs in recent months despite the ordinance.

According to Punong Barangay Enrique Sagayo some 20 stray dogs were caught in the month of October this year alone. This, he said, is the highest catch they recorded this 2022. Even with the Typhoon “Paeng,” the council and tanods went out to do their job and were able to catch four stray dogs this Saturday.

Sagayo relayed that they do the catching every Saturday to prevent wandering animals from causing vehicular accidents and damaging properties, as well as maintain cleanliness in the village.

If the owners claim their dogs caught this Sunday, the barangay will have a total collection of P6,000 this month alone. Collections are used to fund the activities of the Tanod as well as add to their year-end incentive.

Maidip-deposit ta agbalin nga pundo dagiti tanod ket mainayun to nga incentive da nu December, kasla Christmas bonus dan tun ta pangay-ayu mi kadaida ta nagaget da iti trabaho da,” Sagayo said.

The village chief reminded pet owners to be responsible and tie their dogs to avoid being penalized.

Penalizing irresponsible pet owners is pursuant to Barangay Ordinance No. 14 series of 2008 which authorizes barangay officials to capture stray animals and surrender the same to the impounding facility at the barangay hall for proper action.

The ordinance covers not only stray dogs but also goats, native pigs, cats, and other animals.
