Abra, Philippines — A security guard from La Paz, Abra, who allegedly could not move on from his ex-partner, killed the latter’s mother and brother in Piddig, Ilocos Norte, on Sunday afternoon, October 26, 2025.

According to the Piddig Police, the 37-year-old suspect was arrested by a patrolling team after officers saw him carrying a firearm while riding a black Honda Beat motorcycle. Upon inspection, police discovered that the suspect was in possession of an unlicensed Caliber .45 pistol.

Shortly after his arrest, authorities received a report of a shooting incident in Sitio Nagbukel, Barangay San Antonio, where two individuals were found lifeless. Investigation later confirmed that the same man earlier apprehended was behind the fatal shooting.

In an interview with Daily Tribune, Piddig Chief of Police PMaj. Kristian Lee Badua said the victims — a 55-year-old widow and her 27-year-old son — where on their way to Laoag to attend a family gathering, unaware that the suspect was following them.

Upon reaching the area, the suspect shot both victims, inflicting fatal wounds. He then attempted to flee but was intercepted by police officers, leading to his arrest — initially for illegal possession of a firearm.

Based on the investigation, the 55-year-old victim had an older daughter who had been in a nine-year relationship with the suspect before they separated earlier this year. Both have since moved on and are now in new relationships, but police believe the suspect failed to accept the breakup.

“They both already have new partners, but the man couldn’t move on. Eventually, he started resenting the victims because he believed they favored his ex-partner’s new boyfriend,” Badua said, adding that the couple had ongoing conflicts even after their breakup.

On October 27, the Piddig Police announced plans to file two counts of murder and violation of Republic Act No. 10591 (Illegal Possession of Firearms) against the suspect, who remains detained at the Piddig Police Station.
