Tabuk City, Kalinga – Department of Education CAR data as of March 5, 2022, showed that no private schools have started their face-to-face classes in the Cordillera Administrative Region yet.

DepEd CAR informed during the “Kapihan sa Benguet” this March 8, 2022, that 17 private schools in the region were nominated to conduct face-to-face sessions but they are yet to start with their in-person classes.

DepEd CAR Assistant Regional Director Florante Vergara conveyed that private schools are encouraged to open and conduct face-to-face classes. Nevertheless, he added that “still they have to pass through the division evaluation team and that of the regional team to see whether they are also prepared.”

As of March 3, 2022, there is a total of 85,775 students under DepEd who are having their face-to-face classes.

Vergara, during the event, described that the conduct of in-person classes amid the pandemic is different from the usual pre-pandemic face-to-face.

Unlike the normal before na takbuhan ‘yung mga bata, ngayon merong order talaga,” he said, adding that learners are required to wash their hands and to look for their names and register at the gate before they will be ushered to their respective classrooms.

“At the same time, hindi po gaya ng dati na 8am-5pm, may oras lang sila. Bawat grade level, meron ding oras ranging from 2 to 3 hours up to 4 hours po ’yun,” he further said.

Vergara stressed that with the re-opening of classes, the protection of children is DepEd’s number one concern.
