Over P7M marijuana bricks seized in Tinglayan, 2 suspects at large

Tinglayan, Kalinga – More than P7 million worth of suspected marijuana bricks were recovered from two individuals who were spotted carrying two plastic bags while walking on the road at Sitio Akafu, Poblacion, Tinglayan on the evening of December 6.


The Special Operations Unit Cordillera and other operatives in the region and in the province arranged an interdiction operation after having been notified about a supposed transport of marijuana bricks.


According to the police, it was around 8:30 p.m. of said day when they saw the two male suspects walking while carrying two yellow plastic bags. When the two noticed the presence of the operatives, they ran towards the mountainous area.

The two were chased by the anti-illegal drugs operatives, but the suspects managed to escape, leaving the two plastic bags behind.


When the bags were opened, the police found a total of 60 bricks of suspected marijuana with an estimated worth of P7,200,000.


The contraband was burned on-site.


Meantime, Tinglayan police uprooted and burned fully grown marijuana plants at Sitio Canaan in Barangay Buscalan on December 6. These torched illegal weeds have a total worth of P800,000.
