P14M Lagawe-Hingyon road expected to boost tourism, industries in Ifugao

Ifugao, Philippines – The 14-million worth Lagawe - Hingyon road improvement is expected to boost tourism and growth of industries in Ifugao, said Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar on Tuesday, June 22, 2021.


This, he said, is with the reduced travel time and improved accessibility between Lagawe and Hingyon.


With a more convenient road, more tourists can now enjoy visiting Mt. Atugo and other tourism destinations in Ifugao.


The DPWH- First District Engineering Office supported his statement saying that the recently-finished tourism road will enhance and build up to five potential tourism sites along its stretch.


These include Mt. Atugo, Mun-ahuk and Kahdayan waterfalls, the Cultural Village of Banghalian and the Umalbong Rice Terraces.

“Consequently, tourists and visitors will be encouraged to satisfy their curiosity to take the adventure of exploring these natural, cultural and man-made tourist attractions, thus the possibility of increasing tourist and visitor arrivals of the two adjacent municipalities will not be far from reality,” they said.


The project involved the widening and concreting of a 634.50-meter, two-lane road which connects Lagawe and the municipality of Hingyon is funded under the 2020 General Appropriations Act.

The road improvement according to DPWH- First District Engineering Office Information Officer Jessie Bognadon commenced on February 27 last year and was completed on November 15, 2020.


“May work suspension kasi nag-lockdown ng March 18,” he added.


Upon completion, Bognadon said it was immediately turned over to the local government of Lagawe for upkeeping and maintenance.


Aside from the aforementioned tourist destinations, other emerging tourism sites made accessible by the project and can boost the livelihood of residents, DPWH reported are Mt. Amyangyang, Lilit Falls, and Bintakan Cave.
