Tabuk City, Kalinga – Out of their own pocket and sweat, members of the police and army recently helped to construct a public restroom in Sitio Roadside, Lower Uma for commuters and travellers to use.

2nd Kalinga Provincial Mobile Force Company Acting Commander, PLtCol. Daniel Fakat said they initiated the project for travellers to have a comfortable and private area for their bathroom break while on the road, specially those going to Sitio Payaw, Sitio Dugong, Sitio Mallongan, Barangy Western Uma, Balatoc and Barangay Colayo of Pasil.

He said that bulk of the fund actually came from the End Local Communist Armed Conflict or ELCAC fund of the 2nd KPMFC, but the personnel contributed to augment the lacking amount to finish the project.

“Pinagco-contributan iti tropa ta isu met lang met iti kuna da. Adda iti ELCAC fund met iti 2nd KPMFC met lang, ninayunan mi lang,” he said.

Together with personnel from the 50th Infantry Batallion, they started constructing the restroom mid March and was finished on April 5. The facility was then turned over to the community on April 7.

Fakat expressed hope that the facility will be well maintained for the recipients to use it longer, saying “sana alagaan da, karkaru tatta nga awan unay iti pag stop over an, at least adda iti dumagasan da. Nu adda man iti stop over, adda iti mausar da a CR. Haan a diay mapan da lang iti ig-igid lang iti kalsada.”

Meanwhile, Fakat added that in response to a community request, personnel of the 2nd KPMFC are currently renovating the Saint Ignatius Church in Mallongan, Uma. This, he said, is part of their mission to cater and help the needs of the community.

National Task Force ELCAC was created through Executive Order No. 70, s. 2018 signed by the President on December 4, 2018 institutionalizing a whole-of-nation approach against insurgency, which include the provision of basic services and other government programs for the development of far flung communities frequently visited by the communist insurgents.
