Tabuk City, Kalinga – A stiffer quarantine measure is being recommended for Kalinga communities with high number of active Covid-19 cases, hoping to control the spread of the disease.

Governor Ferdinand Tubban, during the Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force meeting on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, directed the local chief executives and health officers to implement the needed measures as a step to limit the movements of people and eventually lower the number of Covid-19 cases.

According to the governor, municipalities that continue to record high cases can be placed under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) or Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) status.

"They may review their status and consult with the community if they wish to have surgical lockdowns, or change their quarantine status," the governor advised.

Aside from said strategy, the provincial Inter-Agency Task Force is now seeking other measures which could be done to reduce the transmission and improve the Covid-19 situation in the province.

Just recently, Pasil Municipality has already placed its six barangays which include Barangays Balinciagao Sur, Balinciagao Norte, Magsilay, Malucsad, Pugong and Balatoc under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) due to the rising cases in said localities.

Kalinga as recommendby the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases Resolutions is placed under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) status.

Tubban on Health Workers

In said meeting, the governor also commended the work of health workers in the province, for sacrificing their time and energy just to cater to the needs of Ykalingas, going beyond their duty just to combat the pandemic.

He then encouraged the public to show more compassion for the health workers, whom he said are having a difficult time trying to contain the increasing number of COVID-19 patients specially when several individuals continue to disregard the basic safety health protocols.

Kalinga, as of this writing has a record of 534 Covid-19 active cases.
