Baggao, Cagayan – The remains of a rebel who was killed by his comrades in the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army in 2019 was recovered by the government troops last Friday, June 4.

The 5th Infantry Division (5ID) identified the body as Vincent Cusipag alias MJ.

According to the 5ID, the body of MJ was exhumed in Sitio Birao, Barangay Hacienda Intal, Baggao by the military and police two years after it was buried.

The body was positively recognized by the victim’s grandmother through his clothes and his bracelet.

How MJ died

The 5ID said that an informant who also disclosed the location of the burial site revealed that MJ joined the movement in 2018. However, he escaped from the organization after getting tired of the difficulties of staying in the mountains and running away from the government forces.

While he was trying to live a normal life with his grandmother, five members of the CPP-NPA abducted him. He pleaded for them to spare his life. But they did not give him a chance and they killed him on May 2019, the informant related.

MJ’s lifeless body was then buried in Sitio Birao in Baggao.

MGen. Laurence Mina, Commander of 5th Infantry Division condoled with the family of MJ.

“This Command condemns the inhumane acts of the terrorist CPP-NPA. They have shown complete disregard and gross disrespect of human rights, not just that of alias MJ’s, but all of their victims,” he added.

He further said that their gains in winning the fight to end insurgency will be sustained with the public’s cooperation and support of the different government agencies.
