Tabuk City, Kalinga – House Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda through House Resolution No. 1549 urged Special Committee on Creative Industry and Performing Arts to probe alleged counterfeit cheap Cordillera woven garments from abroad coming into the local markets which threatens the traditional textile industry.

Legarda said this is to further strengthen the protection of the Indigenous Peoples and Communities’ Intellectual Property Rights and Cultural Heritage.

“I filed House Resolution No. 1549 urging the Special Committee on Creative Industry and Performing Arts to conduct an inquiry, in aid of legislation, on the issue of counterfeit garments appropriating #weave patterns from the #Cordillera coming into the local markets from abroad,” she said.

The House Deputy Speaker persuaded individuals to be involved and help echo and rally support, “Let us not allow the desecration of our creative, traditional and intellectual property rights as a people, and as a nation. It is our responsibility to fight for, promote and preserve our creative expressions, and heritage that is uniquely Filipino,” she said.

Meanwhile, in the report of Philippine Daily Inquirer late January, the counterfeit products were described to be a machine made replikas and made of conventional textiles. These are sold cheap duping many customers.
