Road accidents in Kalinga remains a major concern despite lesser cases this year

Tabuk City, Kalinga – While Vehicular Traffic Incidents in the province dropped by 19.88% from January to October this year, Kalinga Police Provincial Director PCol. Davy Vicente Limmong said this kind of problem remains a major concern which requires continuing approach to solving.

According to the data from the Kalinga Police Provincial Office, there are 141 traffic accidents recorded since the first month of 2020 to October, this is 35 incidents lower compared to the same period in 2019.

Of the 141 incidents, 19 resulted to death or homicide, 93 to physical injury, and 29 damage to property. Most of the deaths involved intoxication or drunk driving, motorcyles and minors.

Limmong said that while cases decreased due to the limited movement of people as an effect of the pandemic, he is still very much alarmed of the high number cases of VTAs that result to injuries and death.

From May to October 2020, the period when community quarantine in Kalinga loosened but movements limited, 86 incidents were recorded, 14 of caused the death of the drivers and passengers.

The Kalinga Police Provincial Director said that they will continue to strengthen the enforcement of traffic rules. On the other hand, he again appeals to the public’s participation especially the parents of minors being allowed to ride their motorcycles without helmet and other protection.

He is also reminding riders to always wear their helmets even when the police officers or the POSO employees are not visible on the road to catch them. Additionally, he reiterated motorists to practice moving at the advised speed limit and to never drive when intoxicated.
