Claveria, Cagayan - It is without a doubt that driving under the influence of alcohol raises the chance of harming motorists and other road users.
Driving while intoxicated have long been intertwined, leading to loss of lives, injuries, and damage to properties.
Such a case was recorded in Claveria, Cagayan on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, claiming the life of a 22-year-old man.
The casualty was identified as Fernando Pio, a resident of Barangay D’Leaño, Claveria.
Police reports obtained by the Cagayan Provincial Information Office disclosed that Fernando was riding a motorcycle when he met the tragic accident around 9:00 pm that day.
He was then traversing the road along Barangay Culao when his vehicle crashed into an elf truck he was following.
Investigation conducted by police revealed that Fernando was drunk and was speeding when the incident occurred.
Fernando sustained severe injuries to various parts of his body due to the crash. The responding authorities rushed him to a hospital, but he was pronounced dead by the attending physician.
Meanwhile, Romas Malto, 41, the elf truck driver, was not charged after he and the victim’s family agreed to settle the matter amicably.
