Student went to gather clams drowned on Cagayan River

Enrile, Cagayan - A 20-year-old criminology student became the latest victim of drowning incident in Cagayan.

 

The deceased was identified as Merson Maggay Jr., 20, and a resident of Enrile, Cagayan.

 

In his interview with the Cagayan Provincial Information Office, Don Erickson Orje of the MDDRMO - Enrile relayed that Merson went out to get gather clams on Saturday, April 13, on Cagayan River along Barangay Maddarulug Sur.

 

An investigation conducted by the police revealed that Merson had sprained his leg when he reached the deep portion of the river and was unable to swim.

 

When his companions noticed that he was drowning, they tried to save him, but they failed to do so until they decided to alert the authorities.

 

Upon notification, members of the MDDRMO, Philippine Coast Guard, BFP, Task Force Lingkod Cagayan - Quick Responce Team and Enrile police proceeded to the location and conducted a search and rescue operation.

 

Unfortunately, Merson was already lifeless when found in the early morning of Sunday, April 14.
