Woman from Mt. Province arrested for extorting over P100k from single mom

Updated: Apr 22

Baguio City, Philippines -  A 28-year-old woman from Mt. Province was arrested by authorities on Wednesday, April 17, for allegedly extorting over P100,000 from her victim.

The suspect was identified as Jillian Jay Lantion, a resident of Bontoc, Mt. Province.

Police reports obtained by local media disclosed that Lantion had been demanding money from her 29-year-old single-mother victim since March of this year.

Accordingly, Lantion had accused the victim of spreading lies on social media about her and her boyfriend, who is also the victim’s ex-boyfriend.

However, the victim told police that her social media account was compromised and someone had been using it to contact Lantion and her boyfriend.

“They have been accusing me of spreading lies and fabricating bad things about my ex, via a social media account that is not mine, though containing my profile picture,” the victim told investigators.

The victim claimed she was forced to settle the matter and paid P15,000. Lantion then asked for an additional P95,000 to avoid being charged, prompting the victim to report it to the authorities.

In response, the National Bureau of Investigation - Cordillera conducted an entrapment operation which led to the apprehension of the suspect in Baguio City.

Currently, the suspect and the money used in the operation are in the custody of the NBI for further investigations and proper documentation.
