Tabuk City, Kalinga — The two men behind the shooting of a 29-year-old motel employee in Tabuk City on February 3 are now in police custody after surrendering to authorities on February 4, 2026.

The incident occurred in Dagupan past 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday while the victim, a 29-year-old resident of Uma, Lubuagan, was sleeping on the sofa near the motel’s receiving area. Based on CCTV footage, the two suspects initially entered the establishment around 3:15 a.m. but exited upon seeing the sleeping man.

The victim later woke up to use the bathroom before returning to his spot to sleep. Around 3:20 a.m., one of the suspects re-entered the building, shot the victim in the stomach, and fled. The victim was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately did not survive his injuries.

A day after the incident, the Kalinga Police Provincial Office (KPPO) announced that the two accused had voluntarily surrendered. This was facilitated through the efforts of the Basao elders, the Kalinga provincial government via the Kalinga Bodong Council, and the KPPO.

The two suspects were taken into police custody for proper documentation and inquest proceedings.

“In line with this, it is hoped that, through the coordination of the Elders, the Provincial Local Government Unit of Kalinga, and the Kalinga Bodong Council of Elders, suspects in such incidents will be promptly surrendered to prevent escalation and to ensure the wider community is not adversely affected,” the KPPO stated.
