Baguio City, Philippines – A homophobic slur allegedly led to a stabbing incident in Baguio City in the early hours of February 3, 2026.

The individuals involved were identified as a 25-year-old resident of Santiago, Sto. Tomas, Batangas, tagged as the suspect, and his 44-year-old colleague. Both are working as construction workers on a project in the city.

According to a police investigation cited by Mountain Beacon, the two were part of a group that went drinking at an establishment along Magsaysay Avenue prior to the incident. While they were drinking, a female entertainer reportedly referred to the 25-year-old suspect as “gay.”

When the two returned to their quarters along Assumption Road in Barangay Kabayanihan, the 44-year-old victim allegedly teased the suspect and called him “bakla,” repeating the remark made by the entertainer.

The comment allegedly provoked the younger man, who then grabbed a knife and stabbed the victim. The 44-year-old was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.

Authorities are preparing to file a possible attempted murder charge against the suspect. The case remains under police investigation.
