Baguio City, Philippines – The Summer Capital recorded its second fire incident during the first week of March 2026, coinciding with the country’s observance of Fire Prevention Month.

According to Baguio City Fire Marshal Mark Anthony Dangatan, through the Baguio City Public Information Office (BCPIO), the fire broke out at a four-storey residential building along North Santo Tomas Road, Santo Rosario, around 6:19 p.m. on March 2.

The building’s owner was identified as Wilson Bumay-et, 37, a barangay official.

Dangatan said the incident was reported to authorities around 6:24 p.m. by a neighbor via the 911 emergency hotline and was immediately responded to by personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP-Baguio).

After twenty minutes, the blaze was declared under control at 6:44 p.m. and was completely extinguished by 7:08 p.m.

During the investigation, a caretaker of the building told authorities that no one was inside at the time of the incident.

The BCPIO report did not specify whether the building was partially or fully engulfed by fire but confirmed that there were no injuries or casualties.

It can be recalled that the first fire incident in the city this week occurred on March 1, when flames reportedly originated from the barracks of workers at the Baguio City Justice Hall. A portion of the Justice Hall offices was damaged, and one worker was injured, but there were no fatalities.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of both incidents.

Following these events, the BFP reminded the public to observe fire safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
