Baguio City, Philippines – A retired head teacher who was visiting Baguio City died on the spot after being rammed by a free-shuttle service minibus at Camp John Hay on Friday afternoon, January 16.

The 63-year-old woman from Manaoag, Pangasinan was on a family picnic to celebrate her child’s recent wedding when the incident occurred.

Initial investigation by the Baguio City Police Office, as cited by the Baguio City Public Information Office, revealed that the accident happened at around 3:30 p.m. while a Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) electric bus, driven by a 52-year-old man from Itogon, Benguet, was ascending Scout Hill Road.

For reasons yet to be determined, the minibus swerved to the left side of the road and struck the victim and four other women in the area before continuing forward and eventually crashing into a roadside slope.

The 63-year-old tourist died on the spot, while the four other women sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital.

The 52-year-old driver was taken into police custody and may face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and multiple physical injuries.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong assured that the city government, through the City Social Welfare and Development Office and the City Health Services Office, will provide assistance to the victims of the road accident.
