Sagada, Mt. Province – Although the municipality of Sagada is still closed for tourism activities, its local government unit has initially created an online platform called “Umali kayo” as an online tourist registration portal for those who wish to visit the place, once it re-opens for tourism.

According to Sagada tourism office, the word 'Umali kayo' is an expression in their local language that semantically translates to 'Welcome'.

“Upon the announcement of reopening of tourism in the Municipality of Sagada, all tourists will need to register in UMALI KAYO and their registration must be approved by the Municipal Tourism Office to be granted entry,” the tourism office announced Friday, November 19, 2021.

Aside from the registration system for tourism, additional guidelines according to them will be provided once the official announcement of re-opening is made.

As recalled, a 4-day dry run was conducted by the municipality last August to review the mechanisms that would be instituted for the reopening of Sagada tourism industry, and one of the plans evaluated is the use of the online registration system.

Through an online registration system, the local government could limit the entry of guests to 100 tourists a day and help in the accommodation, validation of registered guests, and compliance with requirements imposed.

Aside from the registration system, the municipal tourism office also released guidelines in advance for guests making plans to visit their community. These include a negative RT-PCR test taken 72 hours before arrival, vaccination card as proof that the tourist has been fully vaccinated, minimum one-night stay in Sagada in a DOT-accredited and LGU-certified accommodation establishment, and confirmed tourists must travel in a private or personal vehicle.

Sagada, as recalled, had been receiving large numbers of local and foreign travellers visiting the locality’s popular attractions such as mountain valleys, rice fields, burial and limestone caves, waterfalls, and cliffs that come with a sea of clouds before the pandemic.

The place was also featured in the 2014 Antoinette Jadaone-directed hit “That Thing Called Tadhana,” starring Angelica Panganiban and JM de Guzman.
