Tabuk City, Kalinga – Members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, through Resolution No. 2021-145, are requesting the allocation of P110 million from the Office of the President to fund the construction, improvement, and opening of roads in major agricultural areas in Kalinga where the main source of livelihood is rice, coffee, and corn production.

Vice-Governor Dave Odiem, in an interview, said they hope the request will get the attention of the President and be responded positively as the province needs more funding for the development of areas that need more access such that of farm to market roads.

“Nu saan tayo agkuti ken aguray tayo lang, ket mabayag ken nabuntog ti development ti lugar tayo. Isunga nag-maymaysaan ti konseho, kadwa dagiti members ti council nga ag-request bareng mapatgan daytoy,” said Odiem.

If granted, this will mean easier harvest and trading activities for the local farmers, boosting the province's economic undertakings.

From the proposed fund, P20 million pesos will go to the construction of farm to market road in Sitio Bliss, Dilag; P30 million for the construction/improvement of road from Taloctoc, Tanudan to Mabongtot, Lubuagan; another P30 million for the improvement of the farm to market road in New Tanglag, Tabuk City; and P30 million for the improvement or opening of the road in Barangay Cawagayan, Pinukpuk.

The resolution also cited that the construction, improvement, and opening of roads at the said places ‘will provide convenient roads and efficient land transportation facilities for the farmers to hasten and sustain economic growth and uplift the social condition of the general public.’

It further stated that farm-to-market roads are among the contributory factors for food and economic security and sustainability, and considering the meager resources of the provincial government, the august body deemed it necessary to request funding from the national government.

Said resolution was adopted by the SP members on August 3, 2021, during their regular session held in Sitio Banagao, Mangali, Tanudan.
