SPESOS employs students, OSYs in Tinglayan this summer

Tinglayan, Kalinga –The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Municipal Local Government Unit (MLGU) of Tinglayan joined force to help with the education financials of the underprivileged, in and out of school youths.


The concerted effort of DOLE ang Tinglayan LGU led to the launching of Special Program for Employment of Students and Out-of-school Youth (SPESOS).


The program, usually offered during the summer and Christmas vacations, shall enable each beneficiary to receive P393.77 per day or P 7,845.40 full wage after the required 20 day-work.

The DOLE and MLGU Tinglayan has initially opened 70 slots for the program. A total fund of P551,278.00 was allotted, with P275,639.00 from each agency.


However, the LGU Tinglayan announced during the orientation held on June 9 that they shall provide additional P100, 000. The additional fund is for applicants who did not make it to the 70 slots offered by the program.


“During diay orientation, more than 100 ti immay nga nag-show ti interest for application, even tatta nga week ket umad-adu da pay ag-apply isunga ag-screen ti LGU nu manu ti makapasa idiay qualifications or manu diay deserving para idiay slots,” Municipal Information Officer Larae Lactao explained.


Lactao said that the final slots count will be decided next week as the LGU are yet to conduct screening.

Qualifications

Qualified applicants are the underprivileged in and out of school youth, aging 18 to 30, and having no failing grades.


Tasks

Lactao said that the youngsters will be tasked to profile their populace, particularly youth and Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in the barangay where they will be assigned. Some will be assigned to clean the compounds of Man-ubal Elementary School, Mallango Elementary School and Tinglayan National High School.


Value and utilize earnings well

Meanwhile, Mayor Sacrament Gumilab expressed hope that through the employment of said youngsters, they will learn to value their earnings and utilize it well to pursue their studies for the students and for the OSY to use their money wisely.


He also advised beneficiaries to be diligent in their studies, sharing that as was a key factor that contributed to what he has become today.


"Do you think I would be the mayor of the municipality of Tinglayan this young had I not been a lawyer? I think not...If you want to be a boss, employee, servant or beggar, make yourself as such. You make your own future and you will harvest the fruits of your hardship,” he expressed.
