Sta. Marcela lauds local police for capturing killers of 63-yr-old woman

Santa Marcela, Apayao – Santa Marcela lauded the recent achievement of the local police following the capture of three men involved in the robbing and killing of a 63-year-old woman in Santa Marcela, Apayao.

The killing which happened on January 27 rocked the municipality and alarmed the people as news broke out about the murder of an ambulant vendor who was robbed before she was killed. Allegations of rape were also floated as the body showed struggle with torn garments.

To track the perpetrators, the Santa Marcela PNP promptly put all hands on deck and identified the three suspects.

In March, a warrant of arrest was issued, and they were apprehended. The three confessed to the crime – their words corroborating with the pieces of evidence recovered from the crime scene.

Now, they are currently detained at the BJMP facility in Luna.

To recognize their work in solving the crime, the Municipality of Santa Marcela released a resolution passed by the Municipal Peace and Order Council chaired by Mayor Evelyn Martinez.

The MPOC Resolution No. 1 Series of 2024 was received by Santa Marcela Officer-in-Charge, Jowie Martinez last week of June.

“The swift and efficient resolution of this case has brought a sense of closure to the victim's family and has instilled confidence in the ability of the Santa Marcela Municipal Police Station to maintain peace and order within the community,” the resolution reads.

Mayor Martinez believes such work of the police should be supported and those who work for the peace and order of the town should be given due recognition.

“Our police put their lives in danger just to keep us safe. In our own little way, we hope we can show them that we support them, we are grateful to them, and that we know they are working,” said Martinez in an interview.
