Santa Marcela, Apayao - In a move to ensure a secure and productive working environment, the Local Government of Santa Marcela has entered into an agreement with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Oct. 18 in Baguio City.

The agreement intends to identify and eradicate influence of illegal drugs among the workforce, as this has been a big threat in the workplace due to its adverse effects.

In line with this, Mayor Evelyn Martinez emphasized that the implementation of mandatory drug testing for employees signifies the local government’s commitment to uphold a drug-free, disciplined, and productive workplace culture.

She likewise urged the LGU officers and employees to conform with the procedures as prescribed by the Department of Health, wherein the agreement specifies suitable penalties for any refusal to submit to random drug tests.

The Sangguniang Bayan, headed by Vice Mayor Rolly Guiang, likewise articulated support for the anti-drug advocacy campaign since it does not only ensure a drug-free workplace but also fosters awareness over the schemes used by drug abusers.

Meanwhile, PDEA Chief Moro Virgilio Lazo stated in his anti-drug advocacy campaign, "We are one in promoting a working environment free of the influence of illegal drugs in the public and private sectors as this allows personnel better health and safety while increasing productivity; this is a win-win situation for both employers and employees."
