Tanudan logs 25 possible tuberculosis cases during Health Service Caravan

Tanudan, Kalinga — Around 8.2 percent or 25 out of the 305 individuals who have availed the mobile chest X-ray during the 2-day Health Services Caravan in Banagao last November 4 and 5 were suspected with tuberculosis and were subjected to GeneXpert test for diagnosis.


The chest X-ray is among the services provided during the caravan to screen individuals who are possibly infected with tuberculosis, and request those with initial findings indicating they might have the disease to submit a sputum sample for GeneXpert test to verify results.


Nurse Ralph Pascua of Kalinga Provincial Hospital TB Dots Center, GeneXpert Operator informed that there were 25 individuals who were suspected will be subjected to GeneXpert test.

Pascua added that of the 25 processed sputum samples, 24 are negative, while 1 will be subjected to repeat collection.


Meantime, apart from the mobile chest X-ray, there were also other services offered during the caravan to include subdermal implant for women, Covid-19 vaccination, and blood donation.

Based on data provided, there were 17 women who availed the subdermal implant; 25 for the first dose of Covid-19 and 15 for the second dose.


Also, at least 4 people came to donate blood.


Moreover, during the caravan, the Tanudan Municipal Police Station conducted Barangayanihan with the different line agencies. Among the activities include lectures, free haircuts, tree planting, a clean-up drive, and the distribution of 230 food packs.
