yKalinga athletes seize 45 medals in 2023 Batang Pinoy, Philippine National Games

Tabuk City, Kalinga - Celebration and pride swept through Kalinga province as the athletes showcased their prowess in the 2023 Batang Pinoy and Philippine National Games (PNG), bringing home a collection of medals that paint a story of dedication, skill, and determination.

 

Held simultaneously from Dec. 17 to 22 in Metro Manila, the championships gathered around 18,000 athletes from 193 participating local government units. Batang Pinoy is a national multi-sport competition in the country specifically designed for young athletes aged 17 years old and below, while PNG is for athletes 18 years and above.

 

Amidst the competitive battlegrounds, the delegates shone brightly, securing a total of 19 gold medals, 11 silver medals, and 15 bronze medals across various disciplines, marking a significant development.

 

Batang Pinoy

 

Muay Thai Champions

 

Ralph Liwaliw, Froilan Saking, Maximo Saking, Zidane Israr, Ben Henry Tarnate, Tristan Matalang, and Shakespeare Bacacao emerged as gold medalists in Muay Thai, showcasing exceptional skill and unwavering determination.

 

Meanwhile, Salko Velic, Ckaizer Ngao-i, and Andrei Ngao-i showcased their skills with finesse, claiming silver medals, while Ernie Bucalen, Alexander Tagure, and Regine Assuncion demonstrated their tenacity and skill, earning bronze medals.

 

Kickboxing Champions

 

Virah Leigh Balagso, Angelo Goyagoy, Daryll Valdez, and Jadah Gabit claimed gold medals in the intense arena of kickboxing.

 

Silver medalists were Alexin Anniban, Januario Ayangao and Lorraine Buslig, while Eowyn Keith Magmoyao, Raven Bayangan, Jheff Banasan, Rimer Edas, and Klein Sulca exhibited resilience and determination to capture bronze medals.

 

Taekwondo Champions

 

For Taekwondo, Wenalyn Lazaro seized a silver medal, while Jona Kieth Castillo settled as a bronze medallist.

 

Wushu Sanda Champions

 

Exhibiting outstanding technique and dedication to the craft, AJ Oliveros, Jabez Onsal, Darius Onsal, Japheth Palogan, Wrenzir Asiw and Shieva Kate Maguiwao secured gold medal in Wushu Sanda, while Wilshire Long-od, Wilbrain Long-od, and Randolf Buelta finished their campaign as silver medalists.

 

Wai Kru Muay Thai and Cycling medalists

 

Bucalen likewise emerged as a bronze medallist in Wai Kru Muay Thai.

 

Jemuel Aggalao clinched the same medal in Cycling.

 

PH National Games

 

Alester Tagure and Yamanjah M. Facunla emerged as the shining stars of the Wushu Sanda category under PNG, claiming gold medals for their outstanding performances. Their stellar displays of technique, precision, and determination earned them well-deserved accolades, marking their names among the nation's elite athletes.

 

Cherokee Dongan's exceptional performance in Kickboxing propelled him to a silver medal victory. His proficiency and dedication in the sport were evident, earning admiration and recognition among his peers.

 

Jona Kieth Castillo secured a bronze medal in Taekwondo.

 

Keanu Osingat Renz Dumawing further earned bronze medals in Kickboxing. Jayrimiah Cabigas also got the same medal in Muay Thai.

 

The achievements of these athletes represent not just individual victories but a testament to the spirit of the tribe, a testament to perseverance, dedication, and unwavering determination. Their success serves as an inspiration to aspiring athletes and a source of immense pride for our community.


The athletes received guidance from their dedicated coaches, including Jude Saclag (Wushu); Daniel Gumilao, Francis Wangngag Jr., Juby Ganongan (Pencak Silat); Erwin Tagure, Thea Tombali, Xandie Wayaway (Muay Thai); and Lloyd Lacwasan (Kickboxing); and Jeffry Ysmael (Taekwondo).
