1,113 indigent senior citizens in Tinglayan receive over P6M stipend from DSWD


Tinglayan, Kalinga – Aimed at enhancing the quality of life of indigent elderlies, the local government of Tinglayan through its social welfare and development office in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) concluded on Friday, April 19, the pay-out for senior citizens across 20 barangays in the locality.

 

In said pay-out made possible by the Social Pension for Indigent Senior Citizens (SPISC) Program of DSWD, 1, 113 eligible elderlies received P6,000 each.

 

As per the mandate of Republic Act No. 11916, also known as “An Act Increasing the Social Pension of Indigent Senior Citizens and Appropriating Funds”, beneficiaries are entitled of a P1,000 monthly stipend starting this 2024.

 

However, the distribution is done per semester, allowing them to receive P6,000 covering the months of January to June.

 

The financial assistance helps in their daily subsistence and their well-being as they could utilize it for their medical needs.

 

The completion of the payout serves as a testament to the commitment of the local and national government to providing essential aid to vulnerable sectors, ensuring that the basic needs of the elderly are met.

 

Who are eligible?

 

SPISC program specifically benefits indigent senior citizens who do not have stable income, are not well-supported by family members or relatives, and those that do not receive any pension from other institutions.
