Tabuk City, Kalinga - The number of poor yKalingas decreased to 10 percent in the first six months of 2023.

This means that 10 out of 100 yKalingas were living in poverty during the said period.

In the same period in 2021, poverty incidence among the population recorded was 15.8 percent, which means there is a decrease of at least 6 percent.

This is based on the Poverty Threshold and Incidence Report by the Philippine Statistics Authority (Kalinga), released on Tuesday, January 16.

In terms of the poverty threshold per family, 6.3 percent of Kalinga families have an income that is not enough to buy their minimum basic food and non-food items.

This means that there is a decrease from the 12.1 percent noted in 2021.

According to PSA-Kalinga, a family of five living in various barangays in the province should have an income of P14,540 monthly to meet their basic needs.

In terms of food threshold and subsistence incidence, 1.8 percent of the families residing in the province have an income that is not enough to sustain their needs.

However, PSA Kalinga noted that this is a significant decrease, as 3.6 percent was listed in the same period in 2021.

For the individual population, 3 out of 100 were poor during the same period in 2023, a decrease of 2 percent from the 5 out of 100 individuals reported in 2021.

To move out of poverty in the first semester of 2023, there is a need for families to increase their monthly income by P2,908.

This was suggested by PSA-Kalinga utilizing the income gap poverty measure.
