SOLANA, Cagayan — The body of a 16-year-old drowning victim was recovered in Barangay Natappian East, Solana, Cagayan, following a coordinated search and retrieval operation involving government responders, barangay officials, residents and the victim’s relatives on October 3, 2026.

The retrieval operation from a drowning incident was reported by  Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Solana, prompting authorities to immediately launch a search and retrieval operation. Nevertheless, the office didn’t mention when exactly the drowning occurred.

Personnel of the BFP- Solana and the Search and Rescue Force Regional Headquarters of BFP Region 2 joined the operation with the PNP Solana, MDRRMO Rescue 38, barangay officials of Centro Northeast and Natappian East, other responding personnel, and the victim’s relatives.

The combined teams eventually located and successfully retrieved the 16-year-old victim.

The BFP Solana said the operation demonstrated the importance of coordination and cooperation among responders, local officials, residents and the victim’s family during emergency situations.

The BFP Solana is under the guidance of FINSP Mona Lisa A. De Guzman, Acting Municipal Fire Marshal.

Authorities have also reminded the public to exercise caution when staying or engaging in activities near rivers and other bodies of water.

Natappian East is one of Solana’s barangays and is located near the Cagayan River. The area has also been the site of a previous drowning incident. In March 2024, two 14-year-old boys drowned while swimming in the Cagayan River in the same barangay.
