Death toll in suspected explosive blast in Roxas, Isabela now at three

ROXAS, Isabela — In the latest update, two more children were confirmed dead, bringing the death toll to three children with two others injured after an unidentified object exploded in Purok Raniag, Barangay Sinamar, Roxas, Isabela on Sunday morning, October 4, 2026.


According to reports from Bombo Radyo Cauayan and the Sangguniang Kabataan of Barangay Sinamar, the fatalities were identified as John Mark M. Peralta, John Yohan J. Binuyat, and Emmanuel C. Disamito, all residents of the barangay.


The explosion occurred at around 9 a.m., based on initial reports. An 85-year-old woman and another minor were also reported injured and were brought to a hospital for medical attention.


Initial accounts from residents said some children had reportedly found a metal object and were playing with it before the explosion.


Authorities are investigating whether the object was an explosive device and are working to determine its type and origin. There is still no official confirmation on what caused the explosion or what kind of device was involved. EOD and forensic teams are reportedly assisting in the investigation.


A witness reportedly told investigators that she saw the victims walking along the road shortly before hearing a loud explosion. She then saw the victims on the ground.


The Sangguniang Kabataan of Barangay Sinamar expressed condolences to the families of the victims and said it stood with the bereaved families and the community during the tragedy.


Police and other authorities continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.


Timeline of the incident


Before 9 a.m., October 4 — Residents reportedly saw children with a metal object, which they allegedly picked up and played with. Authorities have yet to confirm this account.


Around 9 a.m. — A loud explosion occurred in Purok Raniag, Barangay Sinamar, Roxas, Isabela, according to initial reports.


Immediately after the blast — Responders brought the victims to a hospital for medical treatment. Initial reports identified one child as having died, with five others injured.


Later on October 4 — A subsequent report from a radio station confirmed three fatalities, identifying the victims as Peralta, Binuyat and Disamito.


Investigation ongoing — Authorities, including EOD and forensic personnel, are working to determine the nature and origin of the object and the circumstances that led to the explosion.
